Week 13 - The making of an entrepreneur
This week I had the opportunity in reading about Randy Haykin and some great tips and tricks he shared about entrepreneurship. Choosing a partner was one of the topics that Haykin talked about that stood out to me. This is something that I have thought a great deal about because I have been screwed in business ordeals in the past from lifelong friends. Like Haykin, I have been able to be a lifelong learner myself and see things that have helped me to be a better businessman in the long run. When money gets involved in business transactions people can tend to change. I saw it with a good friend of mind when there was a large sum of money at stake. He had promised he would take care of it but didn't in the long run. It was something that I felt like I couldn't prepare for but I feel like it's an important process in choosing a partner. It helped me to understand that he wanted to bring on a partner so he'd have a balanced perspective. What I also took away was when he talked about his own marriage. He mentioned, " I have learned from my own marriage that some of the best partnerships are ones in which people really don’t have a huge amount professionally in common." He goes in and talks about the pros and cons of being in his relationship and how it is beneficial in some aspects. He also mentioned you always won't see eye to eye with some things. That is the whole point in everything that there will be a balanced perspective. Haykin also mentioned that one of the toughest hurdles as a leader is that you will face a failure and to really move on with life after such. We are imperfect beings and it won't ever be a perfect journey for you. For some people going into the entrepreneurial situation will fail and be tremendously hurt. For me I was very hurt and it has been hard to get back into the entrepreneurial mode again. I know that this is what I want to do in life and I have a passion in helping solve a problem in the community and in the world I live in and I will continue to do my very best even though it may be a struggling and hard process, I know it will be worth it.
