W12 - A Hero's Journey - Chapter 7 - Rest
Grateful for the opportunity I had to read the hero's journey as it helped me and inspire me through the principles that were taught. There were a few parts in the book that really stood out to me more than the rest. Speaking of rest, in chapter 7 it talks of rest and how it is needed. There was a quote in that chapter that stood out to me and it reads, " All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." The meaning behind that quote states that "Our senses become dull, our minds and bodies worn down, by constant hard work unleavened by appropriate leisure." (pg 91) The chapter goes into detail how you will have more of a clear mind going back into work with leisure time and taking time to relax from your work environment. I completely agree with that statement as I've seen how work can be so much of my focus that I put it as my top priorities where I shouldn't. I should be putting God first in my priorities as I've seen as I put God first everything will work out. There was another quote that came out of that chapter that I loved and it stated, "Indeed, creativity researchers have found that creative flashes of insight -- The "eureka" moments -- often occur during breaks after a long period of concentrated work on a problem (while the person is shaving, for instance, or going for a jog)" (pg 92) Even Just yesterday I was super busy preparing for finals all day and I was trying to think of a word with some friends but couldn't think clearly of what the word was. It wasn't until I was relaxed and in bed until I remembered the word, "breakthrough.". If it's one thing that this book has taught me is that it's appropriate to have a balanced lifestyle of both work and leisure and to enjoy life to the fullest while becoming your best self.
